Who
is paying the taxes in Lawrence?
With
non-profits like Lawrence Community Works
getting $1 million dollars from the state
to buy foreclosed properties and Bread
& Roses Housing, Inc. buying 89-95
Alder St., 50-56 Eutaw St., and 41-47
Melvin St., we were just wondering who is
left in Lawrence paying property taxes?
These non-profits do not pay taxes and
are buying more and more properties in
Lawrence. Why did the State give Lawrence
Community Works all of this money to buy
foreclosed properties?
What about all of the local private
developers? Why werent private
developers given the same opportunity and
$1 million dollars to buy and rehab
foreclosed properties?
Had private developers been afforded such
opportunities, then taxes would still be
paid on these properties. But now, with
more and more non-profits getting into
the housing industry, we were just
wondering
who is left in Lawrence
paying taxes.
