Wind power testing at Sal's Riverwalk

LAWRENCE – Sal Lupoli, President/CEO of Sal’s Pizza Retail and Wholesale Divisions, Salvatore’s Restaurants and Riverwalk Properties, announces that Lupoli Companies is erecting a 70 foot tall metrological tower on the roof of 350 Merrimack Street to collect data on wind speed and direction. The data collected will be used to assess the viability of placing one or more wind turbine generators at the Riverwalk complex.

By being placed on the roof, the tower will be able to collect data at 150 feet above ground level – providing an accurate picture of the potential wind resource available to a commercial-scale wind turbine.  The tower is made by Climatronics Corp. and will be installed by Boreal Renewable Energy Development – a leading systems integrator based in Arlington, Massachusetts. Sal Lupoli is committed to doing the right things for his tenants and Lawrence.   As we all know, energy rates have risen substantially in the past few years and all indications are that they will keep rising.

Electricity from the wind is free and can be used to displace purchases from National Grid, saving the complex and the tenant’s significant amounts of money. In addition, wind generated electricity does not emit pollution.  Sal is continuing to take a leadership role in the new clean economy:  From recycling old industrial buildings into vibrant commercial districts at the heart of an historic city, to owning and operating one of the largest photovoltaic arrays in New England (127 kW).

Lupoli Companies retained PowerHouse Enterprises, Inc. to facilitate a series of sensible investments in energy-related upgrades.  Previously, PowerHouse helped Lupoli procure a long-term electric supply contract at favor-able rates and served as the project manager for the photovoltaic procurement and installation.

“It has been great working with Quincy Vale from PowerHouse over the past few years.  He has helped us to take greater control of our energy costs, which are a major part of our budget, by step-wise leading us through all the complexities associated with planning, financing and owning advanced energy generating technologies.” said Lupoli.

About PowerHouse Enterprises, Inc. PowerHouse is an integrated clean energy, design-build facilitator located in Lawrence, Massachusetts. PowerHouse’s projects range from LEED Platinum certified houses that slash utility costs, to consulting on the re-powering and adaptive reuse of existing buildings, to power procurement and emissions trading.

Sal’s Pizza has corporate-owned properties in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The business with over 35 locations has become a large retail franchise and wholesale operation serving all of New England with additional locations in California, Florida and opening soon in Virginia. Today Sal’s Pizza and Salvatore’s Restaurants make thousands of pizzas a week! Riverwalk Properties is one of the largest pieces of office and retail space in all of Massachusetts.
