Town of North
Andover Needs Volunteers
Do you know what makes New England
\unique?
It is not only that we still use a Town
Meeting form of government, but also that
our local governments depend upon
community volunteers to help us get their
work done! It is truly amazing the
number of people who come forward to
volunteer their time, expertise and
skills to our community.
As of June 30th, the Board of Selectmen
and the Town Manager appointed
approximately 75 people to various boards
and commissions
but like Uncle Sam
(Happy 4th of July!) We are still in need
of a few good (wo)men!!
Town Government Review Committee: North
Andovers current Town Charter has
not been reviewed since 1985 and it is
time that we ensure our government is
working as effectively as it can.
This committee is a critical and newly
formed committee with a charge to review
the Town Charter and form of government
and to evaluate whether any changes would
be beneficial to the Town.
Small differences can make huge impacts,
so I implore interested parties to come
forward and help with this important
process!
The Community Preservation Committee
oversees and makes recommendations to the
Town regarding the Community Preservation
Act.
This Act provides a funding source, which
can be used to address affordable
housing, acquisition and preservation of
historic buildings, and landscapes as
well as the creation and support of
recreational opportunities.
The Cultural Council is a grant program
of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Members meet and decide how to distribute
grant monies to projects in the arts,
humanities and interpretive sciences.
The Old Center Historic District
Commission considers new construction,
reconstruction, alterations, relocation
and demolition of all exterior
architectural features of buildings and
structures within the district.
The Recreation Council oversees the youth
recreation program. While thinking
of this, dont forget that the
Childrens Show will be held again
this year every Tuesday & Thursday,
July 8th thru August 21st at 10:00 a.m.
at the Blasidell Center at the Middle
School. Band Concerts are scheduled
Sunday nights at 6 p.m. beginning July
13th thru August 24th in the grass area
adjacent to Hayes Stadium.
The Youth Services Board of Directors
oversees the daily operation of the youth
center and promotes programs and
opportunities for our youth. They
also assist with raising funds and
long-range planning.
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee
educates and advises the Board of
Selectmen and residents on solid waste
removal methods and opportunities. Expect
to see this committee expand their
horizons
it will be an exciting time
to join!
The Housing Partnership Committee
encourages and helps facilitate the
creation of affordable housing
opportunities within North Andover
through education and outreach.
I havent forgotten the
schools! They too are in
need! In particular the School
Committees newly formed Athletic
Subcommittee.
This committee will be developing a
business plan for generating sustainable
fund raising to cover budget deficit
costs in the Athletic Program.
