Tom Duggan

Semi-pro football makes a spectacular return to Lawrence this summer as the Mill City Maulers make Veterans Memorial Stadium their new home.

The Maulers will start with a controlled scrimmage game on Saturday, July 8th. The first home game will usher in the excitement on Saturday, July 29th.

This is a great venue for family entertainment and an opportunity to support local athletes who are performing at high levels.

Many of the players are former high school and college standouts from throughout Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley area.

As members of the New England Football League, this is a team and a league that is committed to a quality performance on the field.

Teams from the Merrimack Valley, Southern New Hampshire and the Boston area are all competing for wins and the right to play in a championship game.

Fans of football will be thrilled with this low cost opportunity to enjoy high-level football in the newest and finest stadium facility in the area, the Veterans Memorial Stadium on Osgood Street in Lawrence.

Emilo Colon will play quarterback for the Maulers. Many football fans from the area may remember the accomplishments of quarterback Colon on the football field during his years at Lawrence High School.

After a successful career at the University of Maine, Colon says he is excited to be back on the field playing for the Mill City Maulers.

“I’m very excited to be playing at the Veterans Memorial Stadium again,” Colon said on WCAP’s Paying Attention radio program. “I remember playing there when I was a quarterback for Lawrence High School and the condition that it was in back then. Now we are going to be playing semi-pro football in a state-of-the-art facility that is worthy of the people of Lawrence and the athletes who will play there.”

While the price of professional football games out of reach for most families because of the  high cost of tickets, parking and concession stand prices, the Mill City Maulers will provide the perfect summer remedy for families seeking an inexpensive entertainment opportunity.

This is a great time as the Maulers begin their first season in the NEFL. Playing in the newly renovated Veterans Memorial Stadium will be a treat for both the players and the fans. Coach Matt Brien will have his men ready for a season filled with exciting plays and big victories. Get on the bandwagon now ladies, and gentlemen, the Mill City Maulers are ready to take the league by storm!
