Methuen Mayor Bill Manzi
says he is ready to answer the tough
questions on Saturday's Paying Attention!
radio program. Manzi said today that he
does not regret his decision to fire
former chief Joe Solomon and has promised
he will not duck any questions. On a side
note; Mayor Manzi also bragged that he
has lost "an enormous amount of
weight" and is ready to surpass
Lawrence Mayor Mike Sullivan in "Latitude's
Sports Club's Biggest Loser" competition.
"When this one is over," Manzi
said "not only will I have lost more
wight than Mike Sullivan but I will
weight less and I will be much more
healthy than he is. I've received reports
that he has been seen in Methuen at
Gelato Dolce on Merrimack St., so I don't
know how seriously he is taking
this."

School
Committee Deeds 2 Schools Back to City
The Lawrence School Committee deeded two
schools back to the city of Lawrence last
night: The General Donovan and the lower
section of the AB Bruce School. Lawrence
Mayor Michael Sullivan said that
transferring the schools back to the city
saves the school department money as the
city of Lawrence would be paying for
heat, electricity and maintenance out of
city funds instead of school funds. The
School Committee deeded the Saunders
School on S. Broadway back to the city
last year. The Lawrence City Council put
the school up for sale with no minimum
bid against the recommendation of the Mayor's
office. Voting against deeding the Bruce
and Donovan Schools back to the city of
Lawrence were: School Committeemen Jim
Vittorioso and Martina Cruz.

budget spending plan totaled $135,195,681
and must now be approved by the Lawrence
City Council as part of the entire city
budget from July 1, 2008 to June 30,
2009. Voting against the school budget
were School Committeemen James Vittorioso
and Greg Morris. Morris said he voted
against the budget because of the
additional transportation expenses he
says the city should not have to pay.
